Days Out within an hour, or so, of London

Bletchley Park
Once Britain’s Best Kept Secret, today Bletchley Park, Home of the Codebreakers, is a heritage site and vibrant tourist attraction. Visitors can explore and experience the top secret world of iconic WW2 Codebreaking Huts and Blocks set within the atmospheric Victorian estate nestled in a microcosm of Buckinghamshire countryside.

A day at Bletchley Park now includes an exciting, complimentary new Multimedia Guide in order to explore the site at your own pace and in your own time. A one hour outdoor walking guided Tour is also available. A family version of the Multimedia Guide has also been introduced to help children learn about WW2 Codebreaking whilst having fun with puzzles and challenges. Exhibitions available include The Life and Works of Alan Turing, the only reconstructed Bombe machine and the largest display of Enigma machines on public display in the world.

Visitors can enjoy a full day at Bletchley Park with munchies available in Hut 4 cafe, a playground where children can let off steam and a souvenir gift shop without which no visit is complete.

Waddesdon Manor
A National Trust property owned by the Rothschilds, this Renaissance-style chateau houses one of the finest collections of French 18th Century decorative arts in the world – a fantastic French chateau style house tucked away in the countryside! The long drive leads to a well organised car park where a shuttle bus takes you a good mile to the house (we walked back – it’s downhill!). Entry to the house is timed and given where you catch the bus, but here is no hurry once inside. Room after room of opulence and grandeur filled with treasures collected over the years. This house was built purely to entertain and show off the collections. Outside the gardens are magnificent and a wooden board walk takes you down to the stables café past the most amazing children’s play area. Separate tours are offered to the wine cellar – unfortunately we didn’t have time to see it nor the Aviary. So much to see so a full day is needed. A full programme of events is organised throughout the year, including family events.
